The Propaganda Society by Jean-Yves Le Gallou (book review)
Total propaganda is cradle to the grave propaganda, the dream of the Globalists
It [total propaganda] is a violent sort of propaganda that stems from outside the social body and whose aim is not to consolidate traditional identities, but to fragment and erase them, while subordinating public opinion to the interests of minority lobbies—whether sexual, racial, religious, or simply financial and commercial.1
— Jean-Yves Le Gallou
As we proceed into what looks like another summer bursting with love and affection from the globalists, leftists and their paid thugs, Jean-Yves Le Gallou’s book The Propaganda Society: Resistance Manual for the Mental Gulag is a good reminder of the tactics used by those who want to destroy our heritage, culture, religion, traditions and families.
Le Gallou provides a couple of good lists explaining what he calls “total propaganda.”2 This is the cradle to grave propaganda that Western society has been bombarded with for many decades now. The first list comes from Philippe Bornet who studied tyranny up to Stalin and Mao Zedong. Here are some common characteristics of tyranny:
a predilection for the short term,
bureaucracy,
the control of information,
hatred of both family and marriage,
the indoctrination of children,
a fascination with technology,
population change,
subjugation to foreigners,
the introduction of an internal passport
and the use of religion or epidemics to consolidate power…3[numbers are my addition]
The recent “riots” and “peaceful protests” are neither. They are a strategy, in some sense a military strategy, to destroy our country. They come from the globalist/Marxist/Communist/Totalitarian playbook. These are not people (those orchestrating totalitarian agendas throughout the Western World) who want to have reasonable discussions about deportations or immigration or anything else. They don’t truly care about any of it or us. What they want is to destroy our way of life to gain power and control over our minds and bodies along with depopulating the world in the process. Apparently the Bilderberg Group is discussing, in secret, depopulation as I write this—for the good of the world, of course.
None of this can be accomplished without total propaganda. Tyranny and propaganda are doubles partners. Le Gallou then lists Jean-Marie Domenach’s “five rules of propaganda” found in the media:
simplification and the establishment of a single enemy;
exaggeration and deformation;
repetition and orchestration;
transfusion;
unanimity and contagion.4[numbers are my addition]
He explains each of these briefly. For example for number five in part he writes:
Everyone must have the same thoughts simultaneously…It is the reign of echoic thinking and behavioural mimicry, which consist in posting the same opinions and banners on social media: Black Lives Matter at one time, the COVID-19 vaccine syringe at another, followed by the blue and yellow colours of the Ukrainian flag. Everyone…sings the same tune to create an atmosphere of shock.5
What does all this do? It distracts. It keeps people from engaging in activities that are truly important. The State, that now wants to be our parent and new best friend, does not want people involved in anything truly meaningful. Through propaganda (advertising) it turns people into “homo consumens whose motto is ‘I consume, therefore I am.'”6 What are some of the things they want people to forget about? Le Gallou lists several after explaining ultimately they want to waste your time so that even if you engage in some of these you have far less time to do so, things like “reading, tending to one’s garden, walking in the forest, tinkering, exercising, taking care of one’s children, visiting one’s parents, meeting friends and playing board games.”7
This is an excellent little book (65 pages), succinct and pithy, with some outrage thrown in and a clear explanation of the propaganda we are facing written from a European, French perspective, but it’s a perspective we are all dealing with in the Western World. I thoroughly enjoyed this English translation by Roger Adwan who also provides a lot of informative footnotes for those who don’t speak French.
But Le Gallou doesn’t leave us stranded in a quagmire of lying journalists, nihilistic modern art, politically correct literature, education that indoctrinates, woke movies, kneeling professional athletes, climate change Nazis and all the other “vacuous, insipid crap”8 they want us to waste our time on. The last chapter is entitled:
From Secession to Reconquest: Shifting the Overton Window All the Way to the Right9
I’ll give you one more list that Le Gallou prefaces with this:
We must no longer tolerate the ever more delusional shifting of the Overton window. What we must do instead is undertake to break entirely with the madness of progressivism and wokeism.10
With that Le Gallou gives us 21 things we can do listed as sub-headings with short explanations after each. They are:
Identify the Enemy : Minority Leaders
Reaffirm Fundamental European Values in the Face of the Deconstructionists
Champion the Beautiful
Remain Steadfast in the Face of Any Attack Against Our Freedom of Expression
Never Submit, Never Give In, and Impose Reciprocity
Denounce Untruths, Point Out All Denials of What is Real, and Transgress
Call All Inconsistencies into Question
Denounce the Nefariousness of the Progressivists
Counter-Demonise the Demonisers
Boycott the Advocates of Progressivism
No Mercy for the Pigeon-Hearted [the cowards and useful idiots who have allowed and enabled this crap]
Be ironic and Resort to Liberating Laughter [“mock the conformists”]
Reject Unilateral Disarmament : Embrace Vital Violence
No (Financial) Quarter for Freedom-Destroying Sectarians
Advocate the Right to Preference in the Name of Freedom
Stay Positive: Praise the Beautiful and the Good
Rediscover the Meaning of Words
International Solidarity: Anti-Wokeists Worldwide, Unite!
Resist!
Hard Right Rudder!
Stay Strong! Stay Strong! Stay Strong!11
I would add, in the now famous words of President Trump, “Fight! Fight! Fight!”
For number eight Le Gallou writes:
Progressivists are not inconsistent; they are simply evil, and it is this evil that must be fought against. Indeed, progressivism is not synonymous with generous action—it is, instead, a destructive, totalitarian, and violent ideology that must be denounced.12
This is one of the best books about propaganda that I’ve read. I’ve liked the others (Brainwashing Incorporated, The Indoctrinated Brain, The Psychology of Totalitarianism), but this one gets directly to the point, can be read in an afternoon and is filled with insights both new and rehashed.
If I could only recommend one book about propaganda, The Propaganda Society: Resistance Manual for the Mental Gulag would be it. It’s a book one could easily give to a friend or family member and say, “Tell me you what you think of this.” It would be a great book for high school homeschooled students.
I leave you with one last thought from Le Gallou:
Do not submit; do not give in; do not allow yourself to be victimised; do not remain silent; and always state what you believe: everywhere—both on platforms and in private conversations with friends, family and colleagues, during which you must not surrender to conformity.13

I've stolen this phrase from one of my best friends and have used it without his permission—but hopefully his blessing when he reads it. If not the latter I will live with the consequences of my indiscretion. A good beer and pizza may solve any potential conflict.
