Gatto is always worth quoting! Interesting that the 2017 edition you reference was published in what I would have considered a suspiciously communist locale (Gabriola Island, B.C.). However, it's probably also what might pass as a hotbed of homeschooling in Canada. Not sure, but it seems that Mr. Gatto got kind of "cancelled" since the first edition in 1992. Too much truth, no doubt.
He came back to school one year after a medical leave, and found he had no position and no teaching license. It took him 9 months to get all that back. Another time he gave a speech at a high school...they shut it down halfway through and brought the police in. Poking the public educational bear can be dangerous. I'm going to be reviewing Dumbing us Down and Weapons of Mass Instruction in the future.
Wow, that is so disgusting although in hindsight, not at all surprising. A review of those books would be great! I remember listening to a number of his lectures before he had his strokes and then again after, too. At the time, I was reading quite a bit from the Tragedy and Hope people, which is how I encountered Gatto. Also, at the time, I was rather naive to the depth of evil viciousness the cancellers in academia (and everywhere else) could reach. No such naiveté now.
I encountered this thing called The Trivium Method back in the later "oughts" and I started reading about it, both the classical trivium/quadrivium and its newer adaptations. I did not realize at the time that the modern approach -- the trivium "method" -- more or less started with Carroll Quigley and his book, "Tragedy and Hope," which is also what spawned the website of the same name. I did not like a lot of what came out of that site (and still does) but I still learned quite a bit from the Trivium Method approach and continue to use it in my own thinking.
As far as diving into it -- Tragedy and Hope -- goes, I would say not to bother (too vast, to begin with) and instead go right into Joseph Plummer's brilliant precis on Tragedy and Hope. The fact is, or at least seems to be, that Tragedy and Hope lays out pretty much the entire scope and history of our current new world order and ruling oligarchy. Quigley was wholly in favour of it even though his book was frowned upon by the Powers That Be for more-or-less exposing them. Plummer's short version (Tragedy and Hope 101) lays things out clearly and reasonably.
If you want to go down a useful rabbit-hole (as if you need another one, right?) go to JoePlummer.com. It won't take long in fact.
To be honest, I've had it for a couple of years and haven't yet finished it. I actually found it while reading, "180 Degrees: Unlearn the Lies You've Been Taught to Believe" by Fergus O'Connor Greenwood, who talked a lot about the original "Tragedy and Hope" by Carroll Quigley. He wrote: "Quigley’s masterpiece is arguably one of the most important modern history
books out there. Fortunately for those with limited time and/or attention spans,
its 1348 pages have been competently distilled by Joseph Plummer. In Tragedy and Hope 101 you are only 224 pages away from having a clear understanding of the oligarchical dynasties’ ideology and master plan."
So after reading only some of these volumes, I pretty much felt that I did, and do, understood the basics of what seems to be going on. I still poke away at both of these works, though... something like having a reference book you refer to from time to time.
Finally, I have a pdf of 180º I can send you, but its pretty large (28mb) so I'll see if I can reduce the file size or send a link of the site. Cheers.
Yep, and how did it seem to happen so darn fast?
Hard men create easy times. Easy times create soft men. Or so I've heard.

He died in 2018.

Who are the "Tragedy and Hope" people?
